THE VINEYARD
El Retono is a small family-run Sauvignon Blanc vineyard located in Kelseyville, Lake County intentionally focused on sustainable and regenerative farming. 16 acres were planted planted in 2002 and only 10 rows are of the Musque clone, grown on heavy clay loam soil, where Sauvignon Blanc thrives.
THE WINEMAKING
Sauvignon Blanc grapes were hand harvested at 22 Brix and immediately pressed upon arrival. 100% native fermentation and fermented in neutral French Oak. Hard press was fermented separately in stainless steel. Battonage (stirring of dead yeast cells) for 2 and a half weeks and sur lie aging (on the lees) for 5 months before racking off the lees, blending with the hard press and bottling.
